Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is delighted to have confirmed the signing of Chile forward Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona for a fee in the region of £35million.
Wenger who in the past has been criticised for not spending money to strengthen the Gunners squad said :
“Alexis will add power, creativity and much quality to our squad.
He has consistently produced top-quality performances at the highest level and we are all excited to see him integrate into the Arsenal squad.”
Sanchez himself was also delighted by the move and said :
“I’m so happy to be joining Arsenal – a club with a great manager, a fantastic squad of players, huge support around the world and a great stadium in London.”
Highly rated Sanchez has made over 100 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona after moving to the Spanish giants from Udinese in 2011. The Chilean flyer scored 43 goals in his three seasons with the Catalonians.
Sanchez was in demand after being chased by a number of clubs across Europe, with Juventus and Liverpool showing the strongest competition to Arsenal. However, the 25 year old made his desire clear to move to north London through his representatives.
Sanchez’s move could signal a real desire by Wenger to put Arsenal right back into a title challenge after falling short in recent times.
