Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry is the highest earner in Major League Soccer. The New York Red Bulls man holds that title for the second season running. Henry who scored 174 goals in 254 games for the Gunners has been in fine form for New York so far this season.
Figures released on Monday by the MLS Players Union confirmed that Thierry Henry remained in the No. 1 position despite a drop in his base salary from $5 million to $3.75 million. Henry’s total pay fell from $5.6 million to $4.35 million, still not bad work if you can get it !
In second place on the MLS top earners list is former Spurs and Liverpool striker Robbie Keane. Figures show that Keane actually has the biggest base salary at around $4 million. This figure shows an increase from $2,917,241 last season. Keane’s total salary rose to $4,333,333 from $3,417,243 as a reward for helping the LA Galaxy win their second straight Major League Soccer title.
Former Everton midfield player Tim Cahill was third on the list with a $3.5 million base salary, increasing to $3,625,000 overall for the New York Red Bulls man.
In 4th place was another former Everton man Landon Donovan. The LA Galaxy midfielder’s total salary is $2.5 million. Donovan has recently returned to LA after taking an extended break to consider his options.
In 5th place is former Lazio forward Marco Di Vaio whose salary is $1,000,008 base giving him a total salary of $1,937,508.
