Reports have emerged today that Jose Mourinho will leave Real Madrid and make a sensational return to Chelsea this summer. The ‘Special One’ has stated in the past that he has ‘unfinished business’ at Stamford Bridge and now looks set to return as manager.
Mourinho has allegedly told reporters in Spain that he will return to a former job when he leaves the Bernabau Stadium in the summer. There was also a claim on Twitter from a youth coach at FC Porto who tweeted a picture of Chelsea stadium with the tweet ‘Mourinho’s home next year.’ There is no confirmation that the account is a genuine one though and may be someone trying to stir things up on Twitter.
It actually would make a great deal of sense if Chelsea and Mourinho can agree a deal. Mourinho has been the most successful manager Chelsea have had and delivered 2 League titles for them in his previous stint as Chelsea boss. He reportedly fell out with owner Roman Abramovich at the end of his last tenure, but nobody can dispute what a fantastic manager he is. He still may deliver the European Champions League for his current club Real Madrid after knocking out Manchester United in the last round.
Chelsea haven’t been the same club since Mourinho left and although they’ve still had success, bringing Mourinho back would be seen as a major coup. He had a fantastic relationship with his players last time out and it would be interesting to see if he could turn them back into genuine title challengers again after they’ve fallen behind Manchester United and Manchester City.
It remains to be seen whether he does return although it seems to make perfect sense. They currently have Rafael Benitez in charge as their ‘Interim’ manager but the relationship between him and the Chelsea board and fans is a frosty one.All will be revealed over the next few months but it would be good to see Jose managing again in the Premier League, and Chelsea seems like a perfect fit.
