Hulk

New Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is lining up a move for the Zenit St Petersburg¬† forward, Hulk. The Brazilian has impressed Mourinho who is looking for another strong striker to lead the line at the Bridge. Hulk came to Mourinho’s close attention when playing in Andre Villas-Boas’ FC Porto side, his strong and direct running are qualities that Jose likes in strikers.

Chelsea have been monitoring his progress for a couple of seasons and were tipped to make a move for the 26 year old Brazilian when he left Porto for Zenit St Petersburg. Mourinho is understood to have drawn up a list of potential targets as he attempts to build a Chelsea side capable of winning the Premier League title again and creating a era of success for the second time under him.

It is unclear as yet whether Mourinho sees a future at Chelsea for Fernando Torres and Demba Ba. Both players scored goals last season for the Blues but neither scaled the heights they were expected to although Torres scored 22 goals including one in the Europa League Final. Ba who joined Chelsea from Newcastle in January only managed 6 goals in 22 outings for his new club.

Chelsea also have Romelu Lukaku who spent last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion where he scored 17 goals for the Baggies. Lukaku is highly rated by Chelsea and is in the mould of former Chelsea legend Didier Drogba but it is unclear whether he will be loaned out again next season with Albion and Everton keeping close tabs on the 20 year old Belgian.

It is clear that Jose wants a fresh start at the Bridge and wants to formulate his own team again. Speaking to Chelsea TV he said :

¬†“I am not coming here to sleep on what I did in the past and be comfortable just because we have a great feeling and we have a great relation, I am not that kind of person and professional.

I am very demanding of myself, I need of course the fans’ support, but I want to start from ground zero.

I need to work hard again and build a different team from the team I built in the past, and I want to give everything I can to the club, to the owner and to the fans, forgetting a little bit that I was champion here.

I want to have that pressure on myself like it is the first time I am here and I have to work hard and to make sure they have a reason to be happy with me.”

The special one is back in the Premier League and it will be interesting to see if he can break the Manchester stranglehold of the last few years at the top of the league. Who would bet against him ?
