Everton Ladies announced three new signings with only 48 hours before the start of the new women’s season with a tasty cup game against rivals Liverpool on Saturday night.
The toffees have signed England under 19 goal keeper Lizzie Durack from Australian side Western Sydney Wanderers whilst also securing the services of Northern Ireland duo defender Julie Nelson and striker Simone Magill who all went straight into the squad to face Liverpool on Saturday.
Everton fans will saw a few familiar faces in the Liverpool line up with England midfielder Fara Williams, Becky Easton, Lucy Bronze and Natasha Dowie all swapping the famous royal blue for the red of Liverpool during the winter off-season break. Everton have done further transfer business of their own by snapping up former Liverpool captain Vicky Jones and her twin sister Kelly Jones also from Liverpool Ladies.
The game was played at Halton Stadium in Widnes, the new home of Liverpool Ladies, on Saturday 23rd March, kick off at 7.30pm. The game itself ended in a 1-1 draw. With match tickets are priced at £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions, and a number of activities such as face painting, penalty shoot outs amongst other activities in a ‘fan zone’ outside the stadium from 6pm onwards, Women’s football continues to go from strength to strength.
