A potential MLS franchise in Orlando is still on the cards despite a setback. Orlando City have re-iterated their desire to become a MLS expansion franchise despite the fact that a bill to secure important funding failed to be passed in the Florida House of Representatives last Friday.

Major League Soccer outfit the New York Red Bulls have confirmed that they have completed a deal for Tim Cahill, with the midfielder set to move to the MLS from Everton.

When one thinks of Orlando, Florida, one does not immediately think of football (or Soccer if you want to carry on in an American rhetoric); the word Florida has connotations of beautiful blue skies, crisp golden beaches and of course theme parks, including the home of Disneyworld – not the kind of place you would expect to find a thriving, upcoming football club.

Harry Redknapp may yet get his wish for goal-line technology, and if he does, Major League Soccer is likely to be at the forefront of the effort to develop it.

Speaking to the Associated Press Sports Editors on Thursday, Commissioner Don Garber said MLS would like the be a test league for goal-line technology once it is approved by the International Football Association Board, which could come as soon as July.

Arsenal FC manager Arsene Wenger has pointed to Major League Soccer and the United States as the “future of the game.”

In an interview with ArsenalTV about the impending arrival of FC Dallas star and MLS MVP finalist Brek Shea, Wenger expressed no doubts about how American soccer “will certainly influence the modern game.”
