Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke has today been ruled out for at least six months after rupturing an Achilles tendon whilst training with Aston Villa today.
The Villains confirmed the bad news on their official website meaning that the young Belgian striker will also miss the World Cup in Brazil this summer.
The 23 year old Benteke, has scored 11 goals for Aston Villa this season and was expected to be a key member of the Belgium squad in Brazil.
His manager at Villa manager Paul Lambert told the club’s official website:
“It’s a terrible blow both for Christian and for the club.
He will miss the rest of the season, obviously, and also the World Cup.
But he’ll work hard because that’s what he does and he’ll come back for us stronger than ever next season.”
Benteke also received support from his captain at International level Vincent Kompany, who tweeted his support to Benteke saying :
“Wishing you all the strength you need @bentekechris20 and I hope you will recover quickly! We’re all with you together!”
It is a big blow for the Belgian squad as Benteke has established himself as a starter in their side. However, it now gives an opportunity to Everton strikers Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas to cement their starting places for the World Cup.
Here at footyscene.com we would like to wish Christian Benteke a speedy and full recovery.
